Mtshabezi School triumphs at blind soccer tournament

Mtshabezi School has once again made its mark in the world of sports, winning the best school prize at the Blind Soccer Tournament recently held at the FIFA Stadium in Gwabalanda. This victory marks their second consecutive win at the tournament, demonstrating their continued excellence in blind soccer.
During the event, Mtshabezi was awarded a trophy for being the overall best school, alongside an accolade for the best male player of the tournament, which went to a talented Grade 7 learner from the school. Their opponent, McKeurtan Primary School, also celebrated their achievements, with one of their players receiving the award for the best girl player in the tournament.
In an exclusive interview with Community Podium at the event, Jacob Gwenanguruwe , the Athletes Commissioner from the Zimbabwe Association for Sports of the Blind (ZASOB), expressed pride in the ongoing development of blind soccer in the country. “The enthusiasm shown by these young athletes is inspiring,” he stated. “Their skills and determination continue to break barriers and showcase the incredible talent within our communities.”
The tournament was a collaborative effort, with significant contributions from grassroots organizations. Themba Ndlovu, CEO of Grassroots Soccer Zimbabwe, emphasized the importance of such events in promoting inclusivity and development. “Through sports, we are not only providing opportunities for these athletes but also fostering a sense of community and belonging,” Ndlovu noted. “It’s essential to empower these young players and celebrate their achievements.”
The Blind Soccer Tournament was a resounding success, with participants showcasing their skills, sportsmanship, and commitment to the sport. As Mtshabezi School celebrates their victory, the broader goal of promoting blind soccer in Zimbabwe continues to gain momentum, thanks to the efforts of dedicated organizations and individuals.
