Nurture Imvelo Trust (NIT), an animal welfare and biodiversity conservation organization, is hosting a two-day workshop in Bulawayo on May 30th-31st. The goal? Equipping animal welfare organizations with the knowledge and tools to leverage social media for improving the welfare of layer hens (chicken layers) in Zimbabwe.
Through education, advocacy, research, and promoting humane treatment, NIT tackles animal welfare issues. “We’re excited to welcome various animal welfare advocates. This workshop delves into digital outreach and animal welfare advocacy, creating a stronger, more united front for improving layer hen welfare,” said NIT Communications Officer, Kholisani Ndlovu.
NIT invited organizations like Sibanye Animal Welfare Conservancy Trust (SAWCT), Humane Africa Trust (HAT), Animal Advocates International, and Opening Wing Alliance.
Ndlovu added, “Digital platforms empower us to give a voice to the voiceless, be it chickens on farms or wildlife. Let’s harness this power to create a world where compassion reigns, habitats are protected, and all creatures can thrive. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for all.”
Godfrey Mandizvidza, Programs Officer at Animal Advocates International, sees the workshop as a chance to upgrade their technological capabilities. “This workshop is crucial for developing our website and social media presence. Social media is a fundamental platform for animal advocacy,” he said.
Innocent Phiri, Campaign Manager at HAT, believes the workshop will be a game-changer. “This will be an eye-opener on using social media to reach communities and make a positive impact on animal care,” he said.
