Plumtree mother reunited with abducted infant

In a heartwarming turn of events in Plumtree, Matabeleland South, a 22-year-old mother has been joyfully reunited with her 9-day-old son after a harrowing abduction incident at the district hospital.
The baby was abducted when they were at the hospital for a routine check-up when the infant was just 7 days old.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena, expressed relief as she confirmed the happy reunion, stating, “The baby was reunited with his mother yesterday after he was discovered at Empandeni clinic by nursing staff.”
The perpetrator of the abduction, Anita Moyo, a 30-year-old woman from Empamdeni East, claimed to have given birth to a 7-day-old baby boy at home when she visited Empandeni clinic. However, her story raised suspicions among the clinic staff as she failed to provide coherent answers.
Insp. Mangena narrated, “The staff questioned her and became suspicious as she failed to answer some of the questions. This triggered them to call Plumtree District hospital, which highlighted a missing baby boy.”
Subsequently, Empandeni clinic was advised to detain the baby and the accused overnight until further actions could be taken.
The abduction unfolded as the accused manipulated the unsuspecting mother in a despicable act of deception. The Inspector explained, “During a process of queuing at the district hospital, the accused befriended the complainant, claiming to have a son admitted at the same hospital. She then asked the complainant to buy bananas for her by the gate.”
Tragically, upon the mother’s return, both the accused and the infant had vanished into thin air. Thanks to the attentiveness and quick actions of the clinic staff, the baby was swiftly located and reunited with his overjoyed mother, who positively identified her son when summoned to the hospital.
