Bulawayo Journalists Pledge Integrity in Fight Against Corruption

In a promising move towards curbing corruption in Zimbabwe, 15 Bulawayo journalists signed integrity pledges Tuesday at a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)-hosted anti-corruption reporting training held in Bulawayo.
The two days program, conducted in partnership with Transparency International Zimbabwe, signifies a collaborative effort to empower journalists with the tools and resources needed for impactful investigative reporting.
“This is a positive move towards quality reporting in relation to curbing corruption in the country,” said ZACC deputy chairperson, Commissioner Kuziwa Murapa in an exclusive interview with Community Podium. ZACC’s endorsement highlights the crucial role journalists play in exposing corruption and holding perpetrators accountable.
The program’s significance is underscored by the alarming figures presented by the Auditor General. A recent report estimates that Zimbabwe has lost a staggering $9 billion to corruption in the last five years. This immense financial loss necessitates a multi-pronged approach, with investigative journalism playing a vital role in unearthing corrupt practices.
Participants at the program expressed their commitment to ethical and responsible reporting. “I believe investigative journalism is essential for holding those in power accountable,” said Andile Mvundla from Skyz Metro FM . “This program has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to effectively report on corruption cases.”
Another journalist, Annastacia Ndlovu from the Voice of America echoed this sentiment, stating, “Signing the integrity pledge is a public commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in our reporting. We have a responsibility to the Zimbabwean people to expose corruption and fight for transparency.”
