Married woman killed by boyfriend

A 29 year old married woman under chief Shana’s jurisdiction in Jambezi was on monday killed in cold blood by a boyfriend following an intense argument, a senior police officer has said. The suspect is on the run.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Glory Banda said the suspect, Thabani Munsaka(45) from Lunyalalo village killed Nemakhawu Mudimba by striking her with a sharp iron rod in the chest, killing her on the spot.
Circumstances are that on 29 May, 2023, at around 0900 hours, the deceased and the suspect arrived at her aunt’s home where an argument erupted. According to the police, the suspect armed himself with an iron rod and stabbed the deceased in the chest. The deceased’s aunt allegedly bolted out of the homestead to report the incident to the police at Milonga Business Centre.
“On her return, the aunt is alleged to have seen the suspect fleeing from the homestead and later she found the deceased’s body lying lifeless in one of the huts,” said Banda.
The body of the deceased was ferried to the Victoria Falls Hospital where it was certified dead. Police await a postmortem report.
“We are appealing to members of the public to help apprehend the suspect as his whereabouts are not known. If anyone has information,please inform the nearest police station. We warn those who engage in violence that the net will definitely close in on them. Where people have differences they should make use of community leaders, clerics as well as the police,” said Banda.
Meanwhile Milonga residents have described the gruesome murder as horrendous. A resident of Lunyalalo village said the violent suspect was seemingly demented.
“Nemakhawu’ s murder was horrible. Thabani used a scotch cart rim to smash the deceased’ s head before stabbing her with a spear in the chest. The deceased and the suspect were in a steamy relationship and everyone knew about it in the village. She is married and on the fateful day her husband had gone fishing at Matetsi River,” said Shelter Muleya who claimed to be privy with circumstances of the matter. Muleya further claimed that the suspect was bitter with the deceased because he spent a lot of money on her but she had not been “cooperating” of late.
The Milonga community has been experiencing a wave of violent behaviours leading to loss of lives. Last year, a ten year old girl was allegedly raped and killed by a 30 year old man on her way home from school. Murder is a serious offence and in terms of the Criminal Law Codification Act 9:23 s 47 if there are aggravating circumstances, a person convicted of murder is liable to be sentenced to death or life imprisonment or to a term of at least 20 years.
