Man kills pregnant wife

A 26-year-old man, Obvious Velani Sibanda, has been arrested in connection with the murder of his five-month pregnant wife, Nothabo Ncube, in a tragic incident of domestic violence.
According to the Provincial Police Spokesperson for Bulawayo, Inspector Abednico Ncube, the accused and the deceased, who were both employed at the same company, were in a love relationship.
”On February 5th, 2024, around 1700 hours, the couple returned to the accused person’s residence after work. Upon arrival, Sibanda allegedly confronted Ncube about a frequent caller named Gift, who he claimed was responsible for the pregnancy. The accused became enraged when Ncube confirmed that Gift was her boyfriend and the father of her unborn child. He retrieved a metal bar from behind the door and struck Ncube on the head, causing her to fall unconscious. The brutal attack continued as Sibanda repeatedly struck Ncube with the metal rod, resulting in her tragic death at the scene.”
Realizing the severity of his actions, Sibanda reached out to his parents and confessed to the crime. He later surrendered himself to the police at around 2030 hours on the same day. Ncube’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals [UBH], where she was pronounced dead and placed in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
In light of this tragic incident, Inspector Ncube has urged residents to refrain from violence and seek third-party intervention to resolve conflicts peacefully. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and seeking advice from organizations like Emthonjeni Women Forum, Musasa, Contact, and church members, as well as the police, to prevent gender-based violence and unnecessary loss of life.
The community is deeply saddened by this horrific crime, and they demand justice for Nothabo Ncube and her unborn child. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrator faces the full consequences of his actions.
