Frustrated Byo residents face water crisis amid unreliable supply

Mbekezeli Ncube

Residents of Bulawayo’s high-density suburbs are voicing their frustration as the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) struggles to follow its own water shedding timetable. In some areas like Emganwini’s Glencara, residents like Learnmore Ndlovu have gone without water for over two weeks.

Trevor Sibanda from Gwabalanda shared his experience: “This situation is disturbing because my containers ran out of water since I didn’t get the chance to fill them as I and my family were relaxed thinking water would soon be available.”

Cowdray Park resident Bekezela Ncube added: “This issue of water has gone too far. Not so long ago we spent two weeks without any drop, this past Saturday, water was only available for a few hours and many people didn’t get a chance to fill in their containers.”

When reached for comment, Mayor David Coltart apologized for the inconvenience, stating: “I am sorry for the inconvenience caused, I will raise the matter in our general group.”

These accounts paint a picture of a dire situation in Bulawayo’s suburbs, as residents grapple with an unpredictable and insufficient water supply.
