Mabhikwa High soar to netball crown

The netball team from Mabhikwa High School in Lupane district has emerged victorious as the 2024 Matabeleland North Provincial champions.
The team dominated their opponents at the regional championships held last Friday at Marist Brothers Secondary School in Dete, Hwange district.
“My team played exceptionally well and gave no chance to any of our opponents,” said a jubilant Jonathan Moyo, the Coach and Sports Director for Mabhikwa High. “I am immensely proud of how they performed and represented our school.”
Mabhikwa’s stellar run began with a 35-2 thrashing of the host school, Marist Brothers. They followed that up with a 36-2 victory over Somvubu High and a 24-10 win against Hwange High. The team continued their march to the title with a 26-19 triumph over Tsholotsho High and a narrow 26-24 victory against Mosi-oa-Tunya High School of Victoria Falls.
“The match makers, Purity Nyoni at Wing Attack and Mongiwa Moyo at Goal Attack, were instrumental in orchestrating our dominant performances,” added Moyo. “Their exceptional skills and decision-making were key to us emerging as champions.”
With this provincial title, Mabhikwa High School has now booked their place at the upcoming National Championships in Manicaland. The team is eager to showcase their talent on the national stage and bring home the coveted national trophy.
“This is a proud moment for our school and our community,” said Moyo. “We have been working hard and our players have put in a tremendous effort to reach this point. Now, we are looking forward to representing Matabeleland North at national level and giving it our all.”
The Mabhikwa High School netball team’s success is a testament to the dedication and talent of the players, as well as the excellent coaching and support they have received. Their triumph in the Matabeleland North Provincial Championships has not only brought joy to their school and community but has also set the stage for a potentially historic run at the upcoming National Championships.
