Ma Eli declared provincial hero

Insimbi Zezhwane lead vocalist and lead guitarist Elvis Mathe has been granted provincial hero status, a ruling party circular has revealed.
“His Excellency, President and First Secretary of ZANU-PF Cde E.D. Mnangagwa has conferred a Liberation Hero status to the late Cde Elvis Mathe who died on 05 August 2023 and will be buried at the Provincial Heroes Acre, Lupane”.
Ma Eli and his drummer Thembinkosi Mpofu whose stage name was Maviri both passed on Saturday after the hilux they were travelling in burst a front tyre and veered off the road. Maviri died on the spot while Ma Eli later succumbed to injuries at St Lukes hospital on the same day.
The duo’s memorial service will be held today at Amphitheatre in Bulawayo. Ma Eli will be interred in Tsholotsho while Maviri will be laid to rest at Luveve.
Five Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) busses have been lined up to ferry mourners to the Bulawayo Amphitheatre. Some of the pick up points are Sekusile, Old Pumula Terminus Chigumira in Bulawayo. Tsholotsho centre will host a road show in honour of the deceased.
The government has also offered to pay the bills for the injured bad members who survived the accident.
