The City of Victoria Falls recently joined the world in commemorating International Men’s Day, a moment dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the vital contributions men make to families, communities, and society at large.
His Worship, Councillor P. T Moyo, the Mayor of Victoria Falls, set the tone for the event, saying, “Today, we come together to celebrate International Men’s Day, a day dedicated to observing the spirit and strength of men and boys. This day is about recognizing the hard work, sacrifices, and leadership that men bring to their families, workplaces, and communities every single day.”
Councillor Moyo emphasized the City Council’s commitment to promoting equality and inclusivity, stating, “Our Council doesn’t just talk about equality, we live it. Our gender-inclusive policies are designed to support all of us, men and women, boys and girls, as well as people with disabilities.”
Town Clerk, Mr. Ronnie Dube, echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, saying, “As the administrative head of the City Council, I am proud to say that we are committed to creating a workplace that is inclusive and supportive of all employees, regardless of gender. We recognize the importance of men’s roles in our society and are committed to promoting their health and wellness.”
Councillor Mhlanga, Chairperson of the Council’s Health Committee, highlighted the importance of men taking care of their health. “Men often neglect their health, focusing on providing for their families, but we must remember that our health is our greatest asset. I urge all men to prioritize their health and wellness, and to seek help when needed.”
Junior Councillor, Master Tapiwa Mukwada, spoke on behalf of the younger generation, saying, “As young men, we look up to our elders as role models. We are inspired by their strength, resilience, and determination. We commit to continuing the good work of promoting equality, inclusivity, and wellness in our community.”
The celebration was attended by men from various walks of life, who gathered to mark the importance of being a man in today’s society. The event was filled with music, dance, and poetry performances, all highlighting the importance of men’s roles in society.
In his closing remarks, Councillor Moyo thanked the attendees and urged them to continue promoting the values of equality, inclusivity, and wellness. “Let us continue to work together to create a society where men and women can thrive, and where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” he said.
The event was hailed a success, with many attendees expressing gratitude for the opportunity to come together and celebrate the importance of men in society.
