ZRP refutes social media rumors on Government ban of public events prior to SADC Summit

The Zimbabwe Republic Police, ZRP, recently addressed a circulating message on various social media platforms that claimed the government had imposed a ban on public gatherings in anticipation of the upcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit.
In a statement released by the national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, it was categorically stated that this information was entirely false and should be disregarded “with the contempt it deserves.
“It is crucial to emphasize the importance of adhering to local laws when engaging in different activities to uphold law and order within the community. For instance, ensuring that event organizers obtain the necessary permits and follow safety protocols is essential to prevent any potential disruptions or safety hazards. Therefore, while debunking misinformation, the public is urged to remain vigilant and comply with legal regulations to promote a peaceful and orderly society.
The upcoming SADC summit scheduled to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe from the 17th to the 19th of August 2024 is a significant event on the regional calendar. With 15 heads of States expected to grace the occasion, the summit holds immense importance as President Emmerson Mnangagwa is poised to assume the chairmanship of the regional body. This transition of leadership signifies a pivotal moment for the Southern African Development Community, highlighting the collaborative efforts of member nations to address regional challenges and foster economic growth.
