Villagers go for three months without water

Villagers of Gcekeni Line in Sipepa area in Tsholotsho are appealing for financial assistance to drill a borehole after having gone 3 months without access to water.
The Local Councillor Lovemore Bakwenene said he is aware of the challenge, and he is pursuing various efforts to get assistance.
“We are appealing for assistance from well-wishers to drill another borehole. We need help, if someone can drill another borehole for the community as the old one has got a lot of rods which broke loose when they were fishing them for the second time, said Bakwenene.
One of the villagers by the name of Mr Daniel Ncube said they are having to travel a distance of almost 5 kilometres everyday in search of water.
“We have to walk as far as 5 km on a very sandy road to fetch some water from Luwilili Line and Sakapika Line. There are approximately 45 homesteads of about 500 people staying at Gcekeni line,” said Ncube.
Ncube also revealed that a non-Governmental Organization by the name of Adventist Development Relief Agent (ADRA) had tried to fix boreholes in the constituency without success.
“An NGO called ADRA came to Tsholotsho North to service 43 boreholes, ours was also on the list. However, due to shortage of services the rods were now rotten and when the pump minder was pulling out the rods they went loose which caused the NGO to fail to complete the rehabilitation of the borehole,” he said.
