Tragedy strikes in Cowdray Park, woman arrested for murdering husband and two children

A horrific murder case has shaken the community of Cowdray Park in Bulawayo, leaving three members of a young family dead.
Happiness Chimbangu, a 34-year-old woman, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her husband, Edwin Chimbangu (35) and their two children, Promise (4) and Prudence (7 months).
According to a statement released by Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Press and Public Relations Officer for Bulawayo Province, the incident occurred on January 30, 2025. The accused had earlier visited her mother’s residence, expressing concerns about her husband’s inability to provide for the family, which was struggling with poverty.
Later that day, the accused returned to her mother’s residence, appearing stressed and stating that she intended to kill herself. Her mother and two church members attempted to counsel her, but she eventually left, only to allegedly commit the heinous crime a few hours later.
Upon receiving a phone call from a church member who resides in the same neighborhood, the accused’s mother rushed to her daughter’s residence, where she discovered the gruesome scene.
Police were immediately notified, and upon arrival, they found the three deceased family members with severe stab wounds.”We urge the community to protect those close to people with suicidal tendencies so as to avoid such incidents,” Assistant Inspector Msebele said.
“Members of the public are warned not to take the law into their own hands. It is disheartening that such a young family has been lost in such a way.”
The police investigation is ongoing, and the accused is currently in custody. The community is still reeling from the shock of this tragic event, with many calling for increased support for families struggling with poverty and mental health issues.
As the community mourns the loss of this young family, authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The police are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served, and the accused is held accountable for her actions.
