Buffaloes terrorise villagers
Marauding buffalos believed to have migrated from Plumtree are terrorising villagers in Tsholotsho.
Ward 11 Councillor Jonathan Ndlovu revealed that one person has been injured in his ward while four buffalos had been shot by officials from Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZIMPARKS).
“One person has been injured by buffalos in my area. Although no X-ray has been done to ascertain the extent of the damage, the affected individual is complaining of pain in the ribs after being gored by a rampaging buffalo.We suspect that the buffalos are coming from Plumtree. They are so many,” added Ndlovu.
Ndlovu implored ZIMPARKS to capacitate the response to this menace by deploying more rangers as the herd was reportedly too large for the designated rangers to manage.
” There are reports of numerous buffalos in areas such as Mbamba and Nemane and they are seriously terrorising people in those areas. We were lucky that rangers quickly came to our aid. Some people might not be so lucky as the herd is way bigger and disproportionate to the number of rangers on the ground to curtail attacks on villagers ” he said.
Tsholotsho Rural District Council (RDC) Chairperson, Councillor Esau Siwela said that there are reports of at least 80 buffalos wandering in the district.
“There is a serious problem, we have a herd of more than 80 buffalos moving around, terrorising villagers in the district. We have received reports from a number of wards, where some victims have suffered bodily harm on account of the increasing buffalo attacks” said Siwela.
