No to drugs: Bleckhit

BULAWAYO-An award winning Bulawayo artist has taken to song to discourage substance abuse among youths.
Mninikhaya Lunga popularly known as BleckHit Lunga in collaboration with poet Likhwa okaNcube recently released a single titled ‘No Drugs.’
“The song is an edutainment track highlighting the side effects of drugs. Watching local youths waste their lives on drugs inspired me to produce this song,” he said.
Lunga who scooped an artist category award at the recently held Youths for Innovation Trust (YIT) Governance Awards, cited a number of factors that push youths into addiction and urged society to help such youths in every possible way.
“Depression, bad parenting, peer pressure and unemployment are the major causes of addiction. It is sad to note that some of the addicts are graduates.
It is our duty to guide our youths on the right path. No one dreams of becoming an addict but it happens,” said Lunga.
He added that substance abuse has become a bigger problem in that it often leads the addict to steal from family and neighbours to feed their addictions.
The pandemic’s impact on livelihoods and mental health has intensified the problem as more youths turned to substance abuse during the lockdowns. Substances abused include marijuana, crystal meth and cocaine.
