Victoria Falls-Livingstone border now open 24 hours

The Government of Zimbabwe has extended operating hours at the Victoria Falls–Livingstone Border Post to 24 hours a day, making it one of the few border posts in the region with uninterrupted operation.
According to General Notice 2366A of 2025, published in the Government Gazette Extraordinary dated 13th November 2025, the extension was made under the Immigration Act [Chapter 4:02] and takes effect immediately. The move was authorised by Ambassador E. T. Makanza, Secretary for Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage.
Victoria Falls is one of the busiest tourist and trade corridors in Southern Africa, linking Zimbabwe and Zambia. The decision has been warmly received by local and regional travellers, cross-border traders, and transporters.
Joyce Munda, a Zambian vegetable vendor, expressed excitement: “I will now do brisk business at any time. I was restricted by time because the border would close at 10 p.m., but now I can cross freely.”
Lameck Mwendo, a shoe trader, also praised the government: “This is a great initiative. Trade will be done properly and this will improve economic growth.”
Truck drivers who frequent the route have also welcomed the change. One long-distance driver from Congo, who preferred to remain anonymous, said:
“It is now comfortable. We no longer sleep at truck stops. We can now proceed to our destinations 24/7.”
The government’s move aligns with the development mantra of “leaving no one behind” and aims to promote regional integration, economic activity, and ease of movement between the two countries.
