Tsholotsho Youth take action against climate change through indigenous tree planting

Tsholotsho, Zimbabwe – In a bid to combat climate change and preserve their ancestral lands, the Tsholotsho Youth Hub has embarked on an ambitious project to nurture the growth of indigenous trees.
“We recognize the critical role indigenous trees play in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating the effects of climate change,” said Director of Tsholotsho Youth Hub, Zibusiso Sibanda.
“By planting and caring for these trees, we’re not only safeguarding our environment but also honoring our heritage.”
The initiative aims to promote ecological resilience and adaptability in the face of rising temperatures and changing weather patterns.
“Climate change is a pressing issue affecting our community, and we must take proactive steps to address it,” he emphasized, further highlighting that Indigenous trees perfectly adapt to our local climate, providing shade, improving air quality, and supporting biodiversity.
The project empowers youth participants to become environmental stewards and leaders in sustainable development through hands-on activities such as tree planting, environmental education, and community outreach.

The Tsholotsho Youth Hub collaborates with local authorities, traditional leaders, and organizations to ensure the success of the project.
“We’re committed to preserving our ancestral lands and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come,” Sibanda concluded.
The initiative provides a platform for sharing traditional knowledge about indigenous trees, which will also foster a deeper understanding of the ecological role of the trees.
