Sudden deaths by hanging shock Bulawayo

Today, the city of Bulawayo mourns the loss of a prominent businessman and a young individual in two separate incidents of sudden death by hanging. These tragic events have cast a shadow over the community and brought conversations about mental health to the fore.

The first incident unfolded at Killarney in Bulawayo, where 27-year-old Cecil Elisha was found by airport officials as he was set to depart for a medical checkup in Johannesburg. Inspector Abednico Ncube, the Provincial Spokesperson for the Bulawayo Province Police, said Cecil had used a nylon rope to take his own life inside the airport’s international departure toilet. This shocking discovery delayed the flight and left those present in disbelief.

In a separate heartbreaking incident, Christopher Androliakos, a 58-year-old prominent Bulawayo businessman known for his establishment Heads and Hooves, was discovered by his maid in his Famona residence. Locked doors and unresponsiveness led to the grim find of Christopher hanging from a ceiling loft with a nylon rope. The authorities were informed immediately after this tragic event came to light.

Reflecting on these distressing occurrences, Inspector Ncube has stressed the importance of seeking help during times of crisis. He urged individuals facing difficulties to reach out for counseling and support instead of resorting to desperate actions. He emphasized, “Members of the public are urged to seek counselling if ever they encounter problems than to resort to taking their own lives.”
