Radio BuKalanga roars to life

Radio BuKalanga went live for the  first time Thursday giving such areas as Bidi, Matobo, Mpoengs, Madlambudzi, Masendu, Empandeni, Kwite and Francistown, Bostwana a taste of radio in Tjikalanga language.

Station manager for Radio BuKalanga Yvonne Tjedu Buzwane said the station is delighted by this  development and pledged dedication to keep the station focused on development of the Kalanga community and its culture. 

” Kalanga language  has been  degrading over the years because  of modernisation and emancipation of  culture. We strive for the Kalanga culture to remain intact and be preserved for  future generations  because we realised that there is an information  gap between  the old and new kalanga generation as there is a shortage of adequate knowledge by the new generation that is perpetuated  by the modernisation concept where even the elders do not have  time  to pass information to the next generation,” she said.

The station was deliberately  called  Radio Bukalanga, a word which depicts  a land of the people and Buzwane said the naming added a string to bow in terms of engaging communities in fundraising for the station.

“We are happy  with the support  we are getting  from the community  because  currently we fundraise for every event on the station  and the community  is forthcoming  as they understand  their  role and responsibility in this development,”she said.
