Police bust copper cable ring in Mahatshula

Four people are in custody following the seizure of a massive cache of stolen copper cables in Mahutshula. Acting on a tip from the public, homicide detectives conducted a two-week surveillance operation that led them to a rented house. On raiding the premises, they apprehended Muzabani Fumanei, Tracy Ncube, Hebron Chiyangwa, and Alan Mudyiwa.
A staggering 5 tonnes of copper cables were found stockpiled in two separate rooms. Police spokesman Inspector Abednico Ncube emphasized the seriousness of the crime, highlighting the economic strain it causes during an electricity crisis. Replacing these stolen cables diverts resources from much-needed repairs.
“We commend the dedication and patience of our homicide detectives,” Inspector Ncube stated, praising their role in curbing crime. This significant bust comes on the heels of another copper cable theft just two days prior, where a separate suspect was arrested with over a ton of stolen cables.
