Police block CCC protests
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has prohibited the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change’s (CCC) planned protests in Bulawayo to express displeasure on the recalls of its MPs and councillors at the behest of “interim secretary general” Sengezo Tshabangu.
The CCC’s plan was to demonstrate and petition the Minister of State and Devolution for Bulawayo Province at the Mhlahlandlela Government Complex next monday.
However, the police thwarted the planned protests on grounds that the notification does not comply with the provisions of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPA).
“We are escalating our game. If they do not attend to the issues that we have put before them, surely we are going to take other steps.
“We have an option of going for peaceful protests and we have said that Mr (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa, the sooner you engage, the better for you. He should expect more massive protests coming and he should be prepared.” said CCC’s spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi said.
