The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced that by-elections for Nkayi Rural District ward 11 will be held on 11 November 2023.
According to ZEC elections Officer Utloile Slaigwana the Nomination Court will convene on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, to receive nominations for the vacant ward at the Nkayi Rural District offices.
The By election in Nkayi follows the death of an MDC-T nominated candidate who was allegedly murdered in a family feud before the 23 August harmonized elections.
Other wards set to have by elections are Kusile RDC Ward 13, Vungu RDC Ward 14, and Zvimba RDC Ward 23. The by elections are as a result of deaths of some of the candidates before the August 2023 harmonised elections. According to Section 127 of the Electoral Law, elections cannot proceed in the event of the death/s of a nominated candidate or candidates after nomination and before end of polling.
