| Sibongile Dube A birthday party ended in tragedy after Clinton Tshuma (24) assaulted Bhekithemba Khanye with a chain leading to the victim sustaining severe injuries which led to his death.
The fateful incident happened in village 7 Battlefields, Mbembesi on the 14th May 2022. According to Assistant Inspector Namatirai Mashona, the Acting Matebeleland North Police Spokesperson, “A misunderstanding ensued between Khanye and Tshuma over an undisclosed issue. Tshuma assaulted Khanye with a chain once on the head. Khanye ran and sought refuge at a nearby homestead where he later died before being taken to hospital.”
Police in Mbembesi have since arrested the suspect and recovered the chain for use as an exhibit.In another similar incident,on the 15th of May, ZRP Victoria Falls 2022 arrested Qondani Ngwenya (37) in connection with the murder of Layton Ngwenya (41) in the Chisuma area in Victoria Falls.
“The suspect who was on his way from a beer drink met Layton Ngwenya who was on his way to an Apostolic Church shrine and accused the latter of having an extra-marital affair with his wife. Ngwenya picked up a stone and hit Layton Ngwenya on the face. He further assaulted him all over the body using a bamboo stick which belonged to the victim. Two passers-by came to the rescue of the victim but unfortunately found him unconscious. They took him to a nearby clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” said Assistant Inspector Mashona.
Matebeleland North Police are urging Members of the public to value sanctity of life and desist from violence.
“Violence is not the way to go when resolving disputes. Members of the public should not carry dangerous weapons as they move around because they are high chances that they would be tempted to use them to commit crime” said Assistant Inspector Mashona. | |
