Government encourages vaccination to reduce mortality rate.

The government is encouraging citizens to get vaccinated as a measure to reduce the Covid 19 mortality rate as well as weaken the virus in the body if infected.
Acting Minister of Health and Child Care, Minister of Higher Education and Innovation, Professor Amon Murwira disclosed that the government has procured more vaccines so as to facilitate the achievement of herd immunity for the country.
“Cabinet wishes to inform the nation that as of 26th July 2021, a total of one million four hundred and ninety one thousand four hundred and ninety three (1 491 493) people had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while six hundred and eighty seven thousand two hundred and sixteen (687 216) people had received their second dose. Vaccination in border town hotspots and people’s markets is ongoing, with the highest number of the first dose being being administered in Victoria Falls, Kariba and Chiredzi,” said Prof Murwira.
The government pointed to the evidence that those that have received the vaccine have exhibited less symptoms and constitute a lower number of fatalities as compared to the number of deaths among those that have not been vaccinated.
800 000 Sinopharm vaccines arrived on Wednesday afternoon aboard Ethiopian Airways, while another 700 000 Sinopharm vaccines are expected on Thursday
Zimbabwe has received 5,285,000 vaccines to date.
