Covid 19 fatalities, infections shoot up
The number of cases and deaths rose to alarming levels over the course of one day as 2 089 new infections were recorded and 81 deaths declared.
20 people succumbed to the deadly virus in the Matabeleland provinces combined, 2 more from a day earlier. Bulawayo had by far the highest deaths in the region at 17, Matabeleland South 2 and 1 life was lost in Matabeleland North.
In terms of new infections, Bulawayo again led the region with a substantial 146 new cases. Matabeleland North was not too far with a staggering 135 new cases. At the foot of the new cases category was Matabeleland South with 84 cases. Worryingly, all the 3 provinces recorded an upsurge in new infections as compared to Wednesday.
There were 122 recuperations in Bulawayo down from 358, twenty four hours earlier. The other two provinces produced a combined 61 recoveries.
Zimbabwe’s vaccination drive has received a major boost following the arrival of yet another consignment of 700 000 vaccines following another 800 000 vaccines consignment received earlier in the week.
As at 29 July 2021, Zimbabwe had 105 656 confirmed cases, including 73 394 recoveries and 3 421 deaths. To date, a total of 1 593 656 people have been vaccinated against Covid 19.
