Lupane man kills wife, buries her

Police in Insuza, Lupane have arrested Tryfoward Mpofu (35) in connection with a case of murder which occurred at a bushy area near Sishshawe Village at the 96 kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road on 04 June 2024.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) X account, the suspect, Tryfoward Mpofu, allegedly assaulted his wife, Revai Rusive (36), with switches and booted feet all over the body until she died. Police reports suggest that Mpofu accused his wife of infidelity before committing the heinous act.

“The suspect viciously attacked his wife, Revai Rusive, who tragically lost her life due to the severity of the assault. This is a senseless act of violence that has shaken the community.”

After the brutal act, Mpofu dug a shallow grave and buried his wife’s body in a secluded area.

The community of Sishshawe Village is in shock and mourning following this gruesome incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist with the investigation.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing issues of domestic violence and ensuring that individuals in abusive relationships have the necessary support systems in place.

The threat of gender-based violence is real and ever‑present for women and girls in Zimbabwe. According to the United Nations, 1 in 4 Zimbabwean women have experienced physical violence.
