18-year-old man found hanged over alleged pregnancy scandal

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – A shocking incident has left the Cowdray Park community in Bulawayo reeling after an 18-year-old man, Meluleki Sibanda, was found hanged from a mango tree near his family’s gate.
According to a statement released by the Bulawayo Province Press and Public Relations Officer, Msebele Nomalanga, the incident occurred on February 21, 2025, after Sibanda’s father confronted him over allegations that he had impregnated his cousin sister.
“The deceased’s father confronted him on the allegations, and they promised to settle the matter with other family members and the police,” Nomalanga said.
“However, tragedy struck when the family woke up the next morning to find Meluleki Sibanda hanging from a mango tree near their gate.”
Nomalanga urged parents and guardians to handle sensitive issues like this with caution, avoiding inducing fear in the perpetrators to prevent such incidents.
“We urge parents or guardians to cautiously deal with such serious issues without inducing fear to the perpetrators so as to avoid such incidents,” Nomalanga said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Mpilo Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The police are currently investigating the matter.This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of handling sensitive issues with care and compassion.
