Bulawayo Woman (29) Faces Charges of Abusing Stepchildren

A 29-year-old woman from Bulawayo found herself in front of the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court, grappling with charges of abusing her stepchildren.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused woman reportedly assaulted her stepson (5) and stepdaughter (3) on the 11th of June, leaving them with injuries across their bodies inflicted by an unidentified object. The stepdaughter sustained bruises on her neck and body, as well as a broken hand, for which she is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
“The complainants were taken away from the accused person by their father, before a police report was made. The accused person was remanded in custody to 4 July,” the NPAZ stated.
In response to the allegations, the accused woman’s legal representative made a brief statement outside the courtroom, saying, “My client maintains her innocence and looks forward to the opportunity to present her side of the story in court.”
The NPAZ emphasized the gravity of the situation, expressing their commitment to pursuing justice for the young victims. “We will ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated, and the rights of the children are protected,” a representative of the NPAZ commented.
