Man arrested for football match murder

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo has arrested a 31 year old man, Bongani Sibanda of New Magwegwe in connection with the murder of a 39 year old man Msilisi Magutshwa of Makokoba.
Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the development, revealing that the accused was arrested yesterday morning after police received a tip off that Sibanda was at Mzilikazi Rank intending to board a bus to Nkayi, upon which they acted swiftly and apprehended the accused.
Circumstances are that, “On 3 September 2023, the deceased was at Barbourfields Stadium watching a football match with his friends. One of the friends was attacked with a sjambok as he was accused of pushing Sibanda, the deceased tried to intervene and rescue his friend but he was severely attacked by Sibanda and nine accomplices who have been identified as Nevias Sibanda, Professor Sibanda, Elias Ncube, Muzi Ncube, Meluleki Sibanda, Bongani Ncube, Ntabeni Ncube, Ntabeni Nkosikhona Tshuma and John Moyo and he sustained a swollen face.” Insp. Ncube said.
According to the police, the deceased’s condition deteriorated and on 5 September he was admitted at Mpilo Hospital where he passed away on 13 September. A post moterm revealed that the deceased succumbed to the injuries sustained during the attack.
Meanwhile, the other nine accused persons are still at large and Insp. Ncube has appealed for information that may lead to their arrest.
