CCC vows to roll out protests

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has announced plans to commence protests beginning Monday next week against the recall of its Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors.

“Interim secretary-general”Sengezo Tshabangu, recalled 15 opposition MPs, 9 senators and 17 councillors on the basis thatthey had ceased to be members of the CCC. Tshabangu has threatened more recalls should elected officials defy his directives.

CCC interim spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi, said the party the protests will start in Bulawayo which has been hardest-hit by the recalls.

“We are escalating our game. If they do not attend to the issues that we have put before them, surely we are going to take other steps,” he said.

“We have an option of going for peaceful protests and we have said that Mr Mnangagwa, the sooner you engage, the better for you. He should expect more massive protests coming and he should be prepared.”

The CCC has also “disengaged” from parliament and councils in protest against the recalls which they believe are part of Zanu PF covert plans to gain two thirds majority in parliament.

While ddressing the media  in Harare, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said the opposition will not back down on  protests.

“The issue of stolen elections is a Zimbabwean issue, so Zimbabweans across the country have the right to protest,” he said.

“Zanu PF has been doing these shenanigans to embarrass us because we did not attend the opening of Parliament.

“We have a law for Zanu PF and a law for the rest of us. We protest by disengaging from all Parliament and council business.”

The opposition party has also taken the recalls matter to the High Court.
