ZCPD endorses ED re-election

The Zimbabwe Coalition for Peace and Development (ZCPD), has accepted the results of the 2023 harmonised elections announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on 26 August, as an expression of the will of the people of Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa, who was representing Zanu PF won 52.6% of the vote, defeating the main opposition candidate Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who garnered 44% of the vote.
Mnangagwa polled 2 350 711 votes while Chamisa got 1 967 343 votes.
ZCPD congratulated President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF on their victory and wished them well as they govern Zimbabwe in the next five years.
“Zimbabwe is experiencing multiple socio-economic challenges which have been with us for many years now. These challenges seem insurmountable because we have become a deeply polarised society.
We believe that these challenges will only be solved sustainably if we come together as Zimbabweans to find each other and build our country together as a united people.
“It is against this background that ZCPD stands ready to work with the elected Government to improve the lives of our people as well as deepen our democracy in the next five years.
“We will do this guided by the following principles; Constitutionalism and the rule of law, National Values and Principles of Good Governance, Devolution, Peaceful co-existence and tolerance of divergent views,” said ZCPD president Trust Chikohora in a statement .
He urged Zimbabweans to work together in order to build the Zimbabwe they all want.
Religion has been a big part of the 2023 election with President Mnangagwa visiting many shrines of traditional churches during his campaign. Nelson Chamisa’s social media and rallies were awash with biblical verses.
