The ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) has paid tribute to newly elected councillor, Thenjiwe Nleya who succumbed to a short illness at her home in Nkulumane.
Speaking to Community Podium, ZANU-PF chairman for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Jabulani Sibanda said the party lost a true and loyal member.
“It is a melancholic circumstance that we lost Nleya because she had a bright future in politics as we had started witnessing the fruits of her work and we were looking forward to seeing her political carrier grow. She was a committed member who served the party diligently. We have lost a leader who was committed to community development. Personally, I am in disheartened and would like to extend condolences to the Nleya family for this loss”.
Nleya was successfully nominated for as a Nkulumane councillor in the recently held elections.
She, together with 10 other party members that include Cdes Ebbie Dube, Kundai Nyika, Mollina , Mabutho Moyo, Thabo Thwala, Golden Ndlovu, Mthonisi Nsingo and Mlungisi Moyo won proportional representation seats unopposed due to other parties failure to field candidates.
In 2018, Nleya was co-opted into the Central Committee, the highest decision-making body outside congress of ZANU-PF. She replaced former member of Parliament for Pumula Constituency Godfrey Malaba.
