Young people trained to manufacture reusable pads

The Zimbabwe Education Fund Trust (ZIMEFU TRUST) recently organized a two-day training program which was facilitated by Pad Up Zim with the aim of equipping both boys and girls with skills of manufacturing reusable pads.
There were 46 participants and in attendance were different stakeholders who included Lupane Women Development Trust (LWDT) and District Development Coordinator (DDC) representatives who constituted the training assessment team.
The pads are simply made from different soft cloths which can be washable and used time and again by girls and women of different ages during mensuration periods. These reusable pads can be used for a duration of 5 years.
The training facilitator from Pad Up Zim highlighted the importance of homemade reusable pads especially during this time of need as some of the people cannot afford to buy pads from the public market. This is mainly affecting the school going children. This program is of high importance especially in rural areas where there is no open market to buy ordinary pads.
The training workshop was designed to equip both females and males with knowledge on reusable pads as it was attended by both males and females. The team recommended this initiative on such programs especially during this time of covid-19 pandemic.
