World Vision completes third clinic in Matobo

World Vision, in collaboration with several partners, has come through for Silawa villagers in Matobo District by way of building a modest clinic for the community. The timely  gesture has come as a huge breakthrough for the community which has endured years of having to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to walk the daunting 18 km distance to Mapisa Hospital in order to access medical services.

The clinic has been completed and is of great service to the grateful community. Members of the Matobo community, the Ministry of Health and indigenes of Matobo who are in the diaspora all complemented the efforts of World Vision to bring the dream of  Silawa villagers to fruition.

Speaking to Community Podium , Nelson Msimanga a villager at Silawa expressed delight and relief as he highlighted the community’s erstwhile struggles as far as access to medical services is concerned. He said the building of the clinic  has afforded villagers a proximate medical facility. 

“At least much needed medical services have been brought closer to us.  It was a draining tall order for us to go to Mapisa Hospital every time there was need for medical services,”  said an elated Msimanga.

Faith Lusingo said the building of the clinic will go a long way in reducing child mortality rates due to home deliveries which are for the most part done unprocedurally and under unfavorable conditions, to the detriment of infants’ and mothers’ health. The clinic will reduce the number of women who give birth at home, risking their own lives and those of their new born babies in the process.

As women we are grateful to World Vision and its partners for this facility. We are looking forward to the improvement of health services in our area in relation to maternal health given that giving birth at home is so risky”, she said.

Communications and Public Relations officer for World Vision, Shamiso Matambanadzo said World Vision is happy with the community’s complementary efforts which included partaking in the building of the facility. She said the Community was instrumental in the provision of manpower for tasks that included carrying sand, quarry and other building materials.

“World Vision held a survey in 2015 in Matobo district. This survey laid bare the vulnerabilities of the Matobo community when it comes to medical services, thereby prompting the building of the clinic which comes hard on the heels of completing other two clinics built by World Vision in Matobo district,”  said Matambanadzo 
The Health Care Policy of Zimbabwe stipulates that citizens should not walk more than five kilometers to access the nearest health facility
