CCC announces new spokesperson, deputies
The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has appointed Nqobizitha Mlilo as the party’s spokesperson, with Marondera Central Member of Parliament Caston Matewu and Emakhandeni-Luveve MP Discent Bajila serving as his deputies.
The appointments come after the resignation of party president Nelson Chamisa, who accused the ruling ZANU PF party of capturing the CCC through self-proclaimed secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu. In a statement released on Sunday, the CCC National Standing Committee said it met to consider various issues related to party affairs and reaffirmed the need to stabilize the party and promote unity and cohesion. The committee resolved to appoint Mlilo as acting spokesperson “with immediate effect,” with Matewu and Bajila serving as his deputies.
The statement added that further announcements would be made in due course. It remains unclear who will replace Chamisa as party president, with some members of parliament pledging allegiance to him and others resolving to stay in parliament. The CCC is Zimbabwe’s main opposition party and was formed in 2020 by Chamisa after losing another party, MDC Alliance to Douglas Mwonzora in quite similar fashion.
