Primary election dated set as Zanu PF eyes two-thirds majority
Zanu PF has set 1 November as the date of its primary elections to select candidates for the December 9 by-elections.
The seats became vacant following the recall of opposition legislators by self-proclaimed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu.
The Nomination Court will sit on 7 November.
During a Zanu PF politburo meeting earlier this week, President Mnangagwa said the ruling party is taking the by-elections seriously.
“Our self-centred people’s projects and the unmatched mobilisation capabilities should see us winning all the impending by-elections,” he said.
Zanu PF is licking its lips as the Tshabangu recalls have given it a second shot at achieving the coveted two-thirds majority in parliament, having failed to do so in the 23 August elections.
