VICTORIA FALLS-In a strange and bizarre development, an appetite for biscuits landed a man into trouble as he became mentally unstable after stealing custard cream biscuits from a Zambian national last Sunday at a sports bar in  Mkhosana suburb.

Sources privy to the issue say the Zambian national was selling his wares at the sports bar when he decided to visit the rest rooms, momentarily leaving his goods unattended. The thieving man (name with held) picked up the box and disappeared.

” We saw the man pick up the biscuits and run towards the nearby houses. The Zambian man later came back and to his chagrin, his biscuits were no where to be seen. He enquired as to who had taken his biscuits but did not get a satifactory answer. The dejected man swore that he would revenge,” said a reveller at the sports bar.

Residents said they were shell shocked two days later to see the biscuits thief running around Mkhosana business district confessing to stealing the Zambian’s biscuits.

” We were astonished to see  the  mad suddenly mad. He would hop from one business centre to the next telling everyone who cared to listen that he stole biscuits. He was hallucinating and pleading with everyone to assist him ask for forgiveness from the Zambian vendor,” said a man who identified himself as Middy, a friend to the alleged thief.

A security guard at the sports bar identified as Emmanuel Nyoni said he saw the man running around gingerly. ” I saw him with my own eyes confessing that he stole the Zambian’s biscuits. Thereafter he started hallucinating, forcing patrons to flee the bar,” said Nyoni adding that that what happened was a good lesson to thieves.

According to residents, the deranged man’s family has taken him to Zambia in a desperate attempt to locate the vendor so that they can apologise and plead with him to re-align their man’s  mental faculties.

Zambians frequent Victoria Falls  selling different goods ranging from foodstuffs to second-hand clothes. A lot of myths and bizzare stories have been told about the supernatural powers possessed by some Zambian nationals especially  in relation to theft.
