Man rapes, mutilates and murders 10-year old

VICTORIA FALLS– A 10 year old girl from Chenambi in Jambezi was last Friday raped and had her private parts mutilated as she was murdered on her way back home from school.
In an incident that has shell shocked the Jambezi community, the assailant Trymore Moyo (21) allegedly waylaid the deceased, who was a grade two pupil at Milonga Primary School on her way from school.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Glory Banda confirmed the incident. “The suspect was arrested and he has been taken to court,” said Banda.
“The community is grief-stricken and shocked…Try pounced on the innocent girl as she walked back home from school. Police officers told us that the suspect force-marched the girl deep into a forested place where he raped and later strangled her. The girl had her private parts cut out. Her body was discovered after two days by a team of villagers dispatched by the village head as a search party,” said councilor for Mbizha ward 6, Gregory Dropa as he intimated to Community Podium that this was the weirdest and most bizarre case he has ever known.
” Parents should protect girls as they are vulnerable to abuse. I urge parents or guardians to accompany their children to and from school to avoid such incidents. Children should be encouraged to walk in groups and to use wider public roads,” said Cllr Dropa.
The village head of Kwalala area under whose jurisdiction the victim and alleged murderer fall, urged the courts to pass stiffer, deterrent sentences on offenders who commit such acts.
” What the young man did is an abomination and it is difficult to ascertain his motives. Her body was hidden in a forest only to be discovered in a decomposing state after two days. This is unheard of,” said the Village Head, Cosmas Shoko.
Christina Moyo a resident of Chenambi village was at a loss of words. “The girl child needs our protection. I have no words to express my displeasure at what the suspect allegedly did,” said Moyo. She revealed that a donor recently handed over bicycles to school children in the area but lower grades were excluded from the donation.
In 2013 a similar incident that happened in the Lubangwe area, a grade three pupil was raped and killed on her way to school. Organizations dealing with the girl child are on record urging communities to protect the girl child from sexual abuse.
