Schools opening delayed by inauguration

The opening of Zimbabwean schools which had been scheduled for the 4th of September has been deferred to Wednesday the 6th of September. According to Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration billed for today at the national stadium in Harare, necessitated the change.
The change only affects daily scholars and government has advised boarders who had already travelled to their schools to open on monday as previously planned. Those who failed to travel to their schools yesterday were advised to do so on Wednesday.
“For day scholars it is for the whole country, but in terms of boarding schools they will go ahead as some have already left. They can go ahead and go to school, but day scholars will start school on Wednesday to give an opportunity to celebrate the incoming President of Zimbabwe,” she said.
As per Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) results, Mnangagwa won the presidential election with 2,350,711 votes (52,6 percent), beating his fiercest rival, Citizens Coalition for Change’s Nelson Chamisa, who polled 1,967,343 (44 percent). The CCC have however rejected the results citing a flawed process and unverified results.
The party’s decision not to challenge results in court, paved the way for Mnangagwa’s inauguration to proceed. CCC has vowed to go on a robust diplomatic offensive meant to pile pressure on the Mnangagwa regime to agree to fresh polls.
Buses from all over the country are making their way to the capital. Local Government and Public Works permanent secretary Zvinechimwe Churu announced that gates at the National Sports Stadium open at 6AM.
