San community to be integrated into security forces

Tsholotsho – The San Community is set to be accommodated in state security as part of government measures to ensure that they become part of the essential services including security. This was revealed by the Ministry of information, publicity and broadcasting services.
Speaking during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the Zimbabwe Defense (ZDF) forces and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will be recruiting from the San community in the coming years.
“While the ZRP and ZDF have already completed recruitment for the current year, they have undertaken to recruit from the San Communities in the forthcoming recruitment cycle,” she said.
Minister Mutsvanga added that a quota with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has been preserved for the San Community.
“The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has recently flighted advertisements which they have shared with the Tjawo communities, and a quota has been reserved for them,” she said.
She also revealed that plans were underway for treasury to build 2 primary and secondary schools for Tsholotsho’s Tjawo (San) community.
Speaking to this publication, Thandiwe Ncube a member of the San Community in Tsholotsho expressed her gratitude to the government over efforts to include the San Community in developmental issues.
“For years we have been sidelined in issues of development but this is a breath of fresh air. I hope this will enable our voices to be heard and be counted as a people given that we are also citizens of Zimbabwe,” she said.
“This means a lot to us and will demystify the myth that we are a society of uncivilized, uneducated people who shun development,” said Thobani Nkomo, a youth.
The San community has over the years endured marginalisation which has seen them wallow in poverty. Moreover, most of them had to live with the tag of ‘statelessness’ without key national identity documents. In an attempt to address their plight, the government recently issued 4 000 Identity Documents during a special exercise by the Civil Registry Department.
The government says the integration of minority groups is part of its efforts towards achieving National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030 that seek not to leave anyone behind.
