Parents, stakeholders urged to attend curriculum review consultation

Victoria Falls- The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will next week conduct a nationwide curriculum review consultation with it’s clients and internal stakeholders and every school will be a consultation center.
In a circular, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Tumisang Thabela said all parents and stakeholders should be at schools on 23 and 24 May, 2023 to contribute to the curriculum review.
“This is an opportunity for the internal stakeholders to participate in deciding the Education we want as a nation. Their views are important to shape our seduction for socio-economic development,” said Mrs Thabela in the notice adding that this is not an opportunity to miss in order to improve the country’s Competence Based Curriculum in the Ministry’s quest of Providing equitable and inclusive 21st Century Education, leaving no one behind.
The country’ s curriculum review began in 2015 and was implemented in 2020. The updated curriculum is meant to equip learners with a hands-on approach to learning. The competence-based curriculum was a recommendation from the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Education and Training (CIET) Report published in 1999 and other principal pillars related to the Zimbabwe Constitution(2013), the Education Act as amended in 2000 as well as the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation (ZIM- ASSET)(2013).
Parents and stakeholders are on record that the updated curriculum is cumbersome as it has a lot of continuous Assessment Learning Areas. Parents and stakeholders say that at the very least, the review should reduce CALA components.
