New Regent Chief confirmed for the Mabhikwa Chieftainship

In a significant decision for the Lupane community, Zanele Khumalo has been confirmed as the Regent Chief of the Mabhikwa Chieftainship by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

This appointment follows the passing of her brother, Chief Vusumusi Khumalo, and marks a pivotal moment in the leadership of the region.

Zanele Khumalo succeeds John Khumalo, who had served as the regent chief since last year. The appointment was confirmed by Ennete Sithole, the District Development Coordinator for Lupane.

“I confirm the appointment of Zanele Khumalo as the Regent Chief of Mabhikwa,” Sithole stated, highlighting the importance of continuity in leadership during this transition.

Local residents have expressed a mix of hope and anticipation regarding Zanele’s new role. Many believe that her appointment could foster a fresh perspective within the chieftainship.

Thandiwe Ndlovu, a community elder, remarked, “This is a historic moment for Mabhikwa. Zanele comes from a respected lineage, and we believe she will honor her brother’s legacy while also bringing her own vision for our community.”

Youth leader, Sipho Moyo, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of inclusive leadership.

“Having a woman in this position is significant for us young people. It shows that leadership is not just for men. We are excited to see how Zanele will engage with the youth and address our concerns,” Moyo stated.

Additionally, local business owner, Faith Dube, expressed her optimism about potential economic initiatives under Zanele’s leadership.

“I hope she will focus on empowering local businesses and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs in Lupane . With her guidance, we can build a stronger economy for our community,” Dube noted.

Zanele’s appointment has sparked conversations about the representation of women in leadership positions in Zimbabwe. Many believe her role could inspire more women to pursue significant positions within governance.
