Ministry of Education conducts school monitoring visits to improve educational standards

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe is currently embarking on a comprehensive joint monitoring visit to assess the functionality of schools across the country, with Hwange and Binga being part of the 19 districts that the Ministry will visit.

Permanent Secretary Taungana Ndoro highlighted that the “aim is to gain valuable insights into school governance processes and identify areas for improvement to enhance the quality of education.”

The exercise is expected to evaluate the implementation of set protocols and minimum functionality standards in schools, identify challenges faced by schools and the education system, and gather baseline data to inform programming, policy, and decision-making.

Some of the key stakeholders participating in this monitoring exercise include Camfed, UNICEF, UNESCO, World Bank, NGOs, teacher unions, and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education.

This collaborative effort is crucial in addressing the challenges faced by Zimbabwe’s education sector, particularly in rural areas. For instance, learners from rural areas, like Dylan Magoli from Gweshe High School in Mashonaland Central province, have previously presented proposals to improve access to education for rural learners during the 2023 education joint sector review meeting .

The monitoring visit is part of the Ministry’s efforts to transform the education sector.
