Lupane man sentenced to 8 years for attempted murder

In a shocking display of violence, Sibangani Siziba of Ndamuleni village in Lupane has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for the attempted murder of Makesure Ncube.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on March 13, 2024 at the Lupane Bus Terminus, where Siziba brutally stabbed Ncube 13 times in full view of the public.
The case was heard before Hwange Regional Magistrate Mark Dzira, who presided over the sentencing. Magistrate Dzira emphasized the severity of the crime and the need to send a strong message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated.
The court heard that the attack was sparked by Siziba’s suspicions that Ncube was having an affair with his wife. Siziba reportedly found Ncube in discussion with one Siminyeni Ndlovu, with whom Ncube has a child together from their younger days. Enraged by the perceived infidelity, Siziba lashed out and stabbed Ncube multiple times, leaving him fighting for his life.
In passing the sentence, Magistrate Dzira stated, “This was a premeditated and senseless act of violence that could have had tragic consequences. The accused showed a blatant disregard for human life and the sanctity of the law. A strong sentence is necessary to deter such behavior and protect the safety of our communities.”
Siziba was handed an 8-year jail term, with 2 years suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offense within the next 5 years.
The victim, Makesure Ncube, was rushed to a nearby hospital and survived the brutal attack, though he suffered extensive injuries. The case has once again highlighted the issue of domestic violence and the need for greater awareness and support services in the country.
“We urge members of the public to resolve conflicts through peaceful and lawful means,” said a spokesperson for the NPA, adding that “resorting to violence will only lead to dire consequences, as this case clearly demonstrates. We must work together to build a society where disputes are settled through dialogue and the due process of law.”
