Lights at last in Mkhosana

Victoria Falls residents in the BC846 section of Mkhosana have electricity in their homes after enduring 15 years off the power grid.
It took a herculean effort by community members who joined hands to pool their resources and buy materials which were the armored cable, HDA cable breakers, Bolts, nuts and copper wires to ensure they secure power connections in their homes.
Each household contributed $50 for four months in order to procure the required material that Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company ZETDC asseverated it could not provide. The residents’ fundraising project ran from July to November.
The residents then each contributed twenty five dollars($25) Maltri technologies who installed the armored cable and remaining wires.Power is now available and ready for connection to each household.
“It was an uphill struggle. During the journey, there were some doubting Thomases who wanted to believe by seeing who refused to contribute. Some threw a wet blanket to the whole idea of procuring the remaining material for our section to be electrified.Those who did not pay will not be connected until they pay. They will also pay extra as a penalty for not paying earlier. We are also looking forward to mounting street lights,” said James Chimbalanga the chairperson of the BC846 Society.
“We are very happy with the swift development after the long struggle spanning 15 years,” said a relieved resident, Ruth Nyoni.
Salulwe Ngwenya, a member of the BC846 community hailed her community for working together to put an end to the challenges associated with lack of power.
