Binga, Zimbabwe — The residents of Kaani Ward recently gathered to celebrate the official opening of the Binga Local Board Clinic, a significant development that will greatly enhance access to healthcare services in the area.
The event, attended by government ministries, local authorities, and various stakeholders, marked a milestone in ensuring accessibility of health services within the community.
Zinita Muzamba, a resident of Kaani Ward expressed her appreciation for the new clinic, stating that it will help residents access healthcare closer to home.
“We are delighted to witness this special day. Now, even if you have a headache, you can quickly rush to get painkillers without walking several kilometers to the hospital,” she said
During his keynote address, Binga Local Board Project Services Officer, Sam Mwinde emphasized that the clinic was long overdue for the residents of Kaani Ward. He expressed gratitude for the local authority’s efforts in repurposing what was once a residential house into a functional clinic.
“This was a house, and it has been transformed into a clinic,” Mr. Mwinde stated, further acknowledging that some of the funding for materials used in the clinic’s furnishing came from the Government of Zimbabwe through the devolution fund.
Mwinde advised that the clinic would receive essential medical supplies, including tablets and other healthcare items from the main district hospital, the Binga district hospital.
Charles Mugande, Coordinator of the Binga District Residents Association, also commented on the development, praising the local authority for opening the clinic. He noted that the central placement of the clinic would significantly reduce the walking distance for residents who previously had to travel about three kilometres to access healthcare services.
“This will not only ease the burden on residents but will also help decrease long queues at the hospital, thereby improving the efficiency of healthcare delivery,” he remarked.
Kaani residents have expressed that the opening of this clinic demonstrates the local authority’s commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the community and aligns with the country’s mantra of leaving no place and no one behind. As the community embraces this new facility, they embrace a hopeful step toward better health outcomes for all residents of Kaani Ward.
