Tshabangu strikes again as recalled MPs push back
Citizens Coalition for Change self-proclaimed interim secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu, has advised ZEC that countersigning nomination papers of party candidates for the 9 December by-election can only be done by him and two other signatories, to the exclusion of anybody else including party president Nelson Chamisa.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Elections Officer, Tshabangu stated that only him, Mbuso Siso and Jabulani Ncube are authorised to sign for party candidates who will take part in by-election necessitated by the recall of 15 party Members of Parliament by Tshababgu who claimed they had ceased to be members of the opposition party.
“In this regard, may I also emphasize that no other person or individual is authorised to countersign the nomination papers of any of our party’s approved candidates for the said by-elections,” wrote Tshabangu.
Meanwhile the recalled CCC MPs have today argued at the High Court that Sengezo Tshabangu has not presented any evidence to show that they are nolonger members of the party because they were elected under the CCC banner.
“Taken to its logical conclusion, any person whatsoever could write on a piece of tissue paper claiming that they represent a political party and they would assume the power to recall Members of Parliament who were elected by by thousands of citizens. That position cannot be allowed to stand,” said the recalled MPs in their heads of arguments.
