Still a lot more to come from Skhosana

NKAYI –  Nkayi-based musician, Skhosana Buhlungu, who has taken the nation by storm with his latest gem, ‘Dlala Ntethe’, says there is still a lot more yet to come from him. ‘Dlala Ntethe’ complements his previous offing, ‘Isomiso’, the hit single that made waves last year.

The talented vocalist from Gwampa in Nkayi District, with the help of his manager and local music icon, Mothusi Bashimane Ndlovu, stage named Madlela Skhobokhobo and other well wishers, has taken huge strides against all odds to penetrate the big music league. He has gained traction and popularity for his unique and humorous, yet educative musical pieces.

Speaking to Community Podium, Buhlungu heaped praise on his manager, Madlela who identified the raw talent  in the the former and helped him rise from the streets to stardom.

“Its not easy for an aging man who hails from the least privileged corners of the country to realise his dream and come anywhere near success. I can only thank Madlela and God for making all this possible,” said the fast rising sensation who has captured rural and urban audiences alike.

Buhlungu says he is singer and choreographer who crafts songs from contemporary issues around him. The love for family, story telling and his culture contribute immensely to his humorous style.

With regards his latest release, Buhlungu passionately explained that the message is centred on teaching children what is right at a tender age while also promoting a safe and comfortable environment within which they can grow.

“We are aging and the world will soon be left in the hands of these children depicted as ‘intethe’ (grasshoppers) in the song. The playful nature of the small creatures hoping from one place to another simulates a right that should be afforded our children so that they can freely express themselves and also be protected them from abuse,” said Skhosana.

He asserts that his latest song has opened doors for him as it has drawn attention from well wishers both at home and abroad who wish to assist him.

“My latest song has shown my potential and I am yet to improve and do better. I have had contacts from well wishers locally and abroad who wish to help me both professionally and personally,” added a beaming Buhlungu..

Nkayi locals will recall the exploits of the talented man who spent over six years playing his old, self repaired acoustic guitar at Nkayi bus terminus and local bars  in exchange for any amount just to feed his family. The sharp rise in popularity, almost overnight, has helped him earn much better.

Sithembinkosi Sibanda,  a local business man in Nkayi, took great pride in Buhlungu for putting Nkayi on the music map. He said   he was happy that local talent has broken through to the national stage.

“I have known this man for years and I admire his persistence. He never threw in the towel even when he could barely earn anything from his earlier exertions. I am happy for him and surprised at how he has developed as a musician,” said the businessman.

 Lucy Khumalo, a staff member at Vimbana Bar, where Buhlungu usually performs,  related how it has always been a pleasure to see him perform because a good laugh is always guaranteed whenever Buhlungu  performs.

“He has a certain charm and humour that will take him to great heights with the right support structure,” said Khumalo. 

Getrude Ngwenya, a resident in Nkayi said, “I saw his “Ntethe” video on YouTube yesterday and I was amazed by the level of development he has undergone.I also saw him in Nkayi a few days back, the transformation is obvious. He really is pumped up and happy to have achieved this much. We are all happy for him,”  said Ngwenya.
