Mnanagwa pours scorn on re-run calls
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has clapped back at Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s demands for an election redo.
Mnangagwa emphasised the need for Zimbabwe to move on ,while addressing the media and the party faithful just before the ruling party’s politburo meeting on Saturday.
“Now that the elections are behind us, we should not be distracted by the leader of the main opposition who remains stuck in the past, while both Zimbabwe and the region are moving into the future.
His call for an election re-run is a pipe dream, the earlier he realises that, the better for him and his opposition party,” said a bullish Mnangagwa.
CCC maintains that there should be a re-run of the disputed election presided over by the region.
The SADC observer mission said the manner in which the election was conducted violated Zimbabwe’s Electoral Law, it’s Constitution and the regional guidelines governing democratic elections.
A partisan police, ZEC’s refusal to release the voters roll, the defective delimitation report, biased state media, late delivery of ballot papers in opposition strongholds and the role of Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) to intimidate voters, were cited as some aspects of the election that fell short of expected standards.
ZEC declared incumbent Mnangagwa winner of the presidential election with 52,6% of the votes, with Chamisa in tow garnering 44%. The opposition has dismissed both the election process and result.
