Vigilance urged amid heavy rains in Lupane

Lupane, Zimbabwe– In a grave warning to the residents of Lupane, Honourable Mxolisi Charles Sibanda, the Member of Parliament for Lupane West, and District Development Coordinator Ennete Sithole have urged the community to exercise extreme caution in the wake of recent flooding incidents.
Their concerns arise following a tragic event last week, where three individuals were reportedly swept away by water while attempting to cross the overflowing Jotsholo stream bridge.
“The safety of our people is paramount,” Hon. Sibanda said in an interview with Community Podium. “I urge everyone to stay away from flooded areas and avoid crossing rivers and streams that are too dangerous to navigate. We cannot afford to lose more lives due to reckless decisions.”
The Jotsholo stream, which typically flows gently, has become a torrent following heavy rains, posing significant risks to those who underestimate its power. Local authorities have already initiated efforts to monitor the situation, but the challenges remain daunting.
Ennete Sithole echoed the urgency of the situation, stating, “We must be vigilant and prioritize safety above all else. The community should heed these warnings. No matter how desperate the situation may seem, it is not worth risking your life.”
Sithole also highlighted the need for community awareness and education regarding flood safety measures.
“We are working on disseminating information about safe practices during this rainy season. It is crucial that families discuss these risks and make informed decisions.”
